Ryan McClure Counseling LLC

Assisting adults and teens overcome anxiety, build confidence, and find balance through compassionate, evidence-based therapy.

Ryan McClure, LISW

Therapist

After more than two decades at Lifeworks, I recently transitioned into solo practice in West Des Moines. I work with adults and teens to manage anxiety, strengthen confidence, and restore balance through thoughtful, evidence-based therapy. While I draw from approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, I place strong emphasis on building a genuine, collaborative therapeutic relationship. When appropriate, I may incorporate hypnotherapy as a complementary tool to support relaxation, focus, and meaningful change.

Finding the right therapist matters. While techniques and approaches are important, meaningful change happens when you feel comfortable being yourself in a supportive, trusting relationship. My goal is to create a relaxed environment where you feel heard, respected, and understood, because therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating, and many people are surprised by how positive and impactful the experience can be.

My Approaches to Therapy

My dog River

  • Is a form of therapy that helps people understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. It focuses on noticing unhelpful thought patterns, learning to challenge or reframe them, and practicing new behaviors that support better mood, coping, and daily functioning.

  • Hypnotherapy is a guided relaxation technique that helps clients access a focused, calm state to build confidence, reduce self-doubt, and shift unhelpful beliefs, while remaining fully aware and in control.

  • I help athletes develop mental skills that support confidence, focus, and performance, drawing on experience working with athletes at the professional and youth levels.

  • I earned both my BA and MSW from the University of Iowa. Go Hawks!

*I strive to create a welcoming, inclusive, and LGBTQ+ affirming environment where clients of all backgrounds feel safe being themselves
